Back-2-School Sendoff for Success!
Late August each year...
All summer, Learning Links bands together with local churches and businesses, to help prepare our kids with the supplies they need to start the year off right! Back-2-School Night was August 22nd this year and 113 Learning Links students received their school supplies and chose a new backpack!!
Thank you to Harris Beach employees, Penfield Robotics, Girl Scout Troop 64234, Bethlehem Lutheran, Fairport United Methodist and Mt. Rise church congregations for all they did to help! We also had cleaned clothing available for all...
And a HUGE thank you to Kelly Weishaar, Brett Provenzano (School Superintendent) the 42 Fairport teachers and staffers for their help with packing, transporting and distributing this year!!
Robots are taking over!!
The Penfield High Robotics team: Matt, Kate, Jordan and McKenna (aka "Rolling Thunder") came by to demonstrate how robotics work. They showed a ROBOT that they totally engineered, built, and then controlled it by remote control. At the end of the demo we got to play catch with the robot! It sure was cool!

Summer of fun!
We were busy with lots of interesting and fun guests!
At left, the Learning Links room was filled with music by Susie and Jim. We learned dances and songs, indoors and out, to the sounds of a ukelele! It sure was fun!
We learned about the importance of keeping our mouth clean by Maureen Hall (dental hygienist).
We walked to the village to see how digital embroidery is done from Mrs. Patti at the Embroidery Loft. [A special thanks to officer Barnes for the police escort, as over 30 of us crossed the main roads!]
Ted From R.I.T. showed us how to use team work to juggle as a group; proving that working with others can be a fun way to get a task done!
Have you ever met a... Veterinarian, Scientist, or Creative Writer? ...we have!
As part of our Summer Professionals Speaker series, we met Dr. Lodge, a Vet in Victor. She brought her dog Maggie to show us how she does a healthy-dog checkup... She even showed us an X-ray of a dog who had swallowed it's own metal collar! (its shown in the picture at left).
Then we met a Scientist and soon-to-be author of kids' science books, Ms. Annette. She taught us about atoms, molecules and more. She even made liquids bubble out of the bottle and turned liquid into air!
We also had Creative Writing Expert, Ms. Amy show us how to get really imaginative with our own stories. Together we made the funniest "linked story!"
Sharing kindness feels good
During the 2015-2016 school year
Learning Links strives to teach our students about the importance of giving back to the community. So this year, the kids got together and made over 125 get well cards for the children at Golisano Children's Hospital! They were then hand delivered by one of our families, in hope that it helped brighten a sick kid's day. We're so proud of our kids for this mission of kindness!!

The "Amazing Magic Joe" visited!
It sure was AMAZING watching Magic Joe perform his magic tricks for all of us on our last night of Learning Links for the spring! We had all the classes together on one spectacular and fun night!
"Leveled Library" on Loan from Fairport schools!
The Fairport School District loaned 5,000 books to Learning Links based on a new reading level system. Students can now practice their comprehension on an individualized level, moving up and up and up!
We were on TV! Well, sort of...
It was SO MUCH fun when TV 8 professionals taught us about television sales and reporting! We "sold" pizza as our own Pizza Shop, with TV advertising! And then we had a chance to report our own story about "Splashy" the baby seal born at the zoo. It might have all been pretending to be professionals, but it sure was great experience!
July - August 2014
When Ms. Susie comes to Learning Links we ALL have so much fun. She teaches us fun songs and we sing along! It's a great day at Learning Links when we fill the room with music!
Valentine's Day Surprise
Tutors and students prepared for the holiday of love by crafting Valentines for the those they care about most! Then we received Valentines from the kids at Fairport United Methodist Church in a surprise visit!
